China appoints Yin Hejun as the new minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology

(JW Insights) Oct 25 -- The Sixth Session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress appointed Yin Hejun as the new minister of China's Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) on October 24 and removed the previous minister Wang Zhigang, reported the official Xinhua News Agency.

Yin was appointed Secretary of the Party leadership group of the Ministry of Science and Technology on October 7.

Born in January 1963 in northern China's Shanxi Province, Yin has a master and a Ph.D. degree in engineering and started his career as a researcher.

Yin served as the director of the high technology research and development bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and became the vice president and Party leadership group member of CAS in 2020.

His previous experiences included the vice minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Standing Committee member of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, vice Mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government, and Party Secretary of the Zhongguancun Management Committee and deputy secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, according to online news outlet The Paper on October 24.
