(JW Insights) Oct 27 -- Chinese IC design house Montage Technology (澜起科技) has achieved industry-first trial production of the DDR5 third-generation Registered Clock Driver (RCD) chip, which will further enhance the speed and stability of memory data access, the company announced on October 27.

The M88DR5RCD03 chip developed by Montage is designed for DDR5 RDIMM memory modules and meets the higher requirements for memory performance in next-generation server platforms, including capacity, bandwidth, and access latency.

The chip supports data rates of up to 6,400 MT/s, representing a 14.3% improvement over the second generation. It offers higher storage efficiency and lower access latency compared to the RCD products of the DDR4 generation, with a maximum capacity of 256GB per module. The chip also adopts multiple power-saving modes, which can significantly reduce power consumption, according to the company.

Stephen Tai, president of Montage Technology, said that they will continue to closely collaborate with leading international CPU and DRAM manufacturers to facilitate the large-scale commercial use of DDR5 servers.

Established in 2004, Shanghai-based Montage Technology is a leading IC design company dedicated to providing high-performance, low-power IC solutions for cloud computing and data center markets.

The company was listed on the STAR market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2019. It has branches in Kunshan, Beijing, Xi'an, Macau, the United States, South Korea and other places, according to its official website.
